Alternative Treatments for Psoriasis
Self-treatment and the use of alternative treatments are becoming more common among people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. In many cases, they have become tired of the challenge of finding a traditional therapy that works, or they may be concerned about the possible side effects associated with many of those therapies. Whatever the reason, the popularity of non traditional treatment approaches is growing as people continue to become disillusioned with ineffectual medical treatments.
In many areas of alternative medicine, there is little or no scientific evidence that these practices will improve symptoms of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. However, success stories involving just about everything one could imagine being used as a treatment abound. Individual experiences will vary, and one should make treatment decisions with an open mind and realistic expectation.
Although most alternative treatments are perfectly safe, as opposed to most of the medical treatments involving drugs, it does pay to consult your Health Practitioner before starting any specific therapy or treatment for psoriasis if you are unsure.
